Nu vreau sa ma dau io smuter ca stiu mai multe ca voi...
dar spun pt cine nu stie si vrea sa i se miste rabla mai bine:)..
precizez ce imi vine acuma pe moment in cap...in caz ca imi mai trece prin
(acelasi) cap ceva ce am uitat, o sa adaug...sub forma de update:
In primul rand e valabil si pt 98 si pt XP sau altceva...swap'ul cel mai bine
e sa fie fix si si mai bine ar fi sa fie pe o partitie separata creata numai
pt swap...e testata chestia si chiar merge mai bine..mai ales XP...
acuma unde gasiti swapul?....pai acolo unde e si device manager..
in caz ca nu stiti...
cum se ajunge acolo?...click dreapta pe "My Computer" -> Properties
si de aici intri in meniul performance...si de aici se ajunge usor...
valori de swap care le pun eu (stiu ce zice sandra dar sa stiti ca nu prea
trebuie luata de buna faza cu 1.5*RAM):

128 175 195 < pagefile <250
256 ? ?
512 nu mai trebuie:)
sa stiti ca tre sa treceti macar o data printr'un tweak de windows
si neaparat prin "winboost 2000"...il gasiti prin retea ..dc nu, il am eu..
(mikki)..chiar stie winboost asta chestii...
si instalati'va "regcleaner" care e chair extra folositor si mega util...
cu el scoateti prostiile din "add/remove programs" care nu mai pot fi scoase,
tot cu el scoateti prostiile din startup care nu vi le arata windowsu,
curatati (cat de cat:) ) registrii ....e fain...
Norton utilities....dati un windoctor macar 1 data la 2 zile....
ca sa nu mai vb de speed disk...mai ales la cei cu win 98...
ca sa nu uit...bagati swapul la inceputul partitiei cand lansati speed disk
si ca prime fisiere bagati fisierele *.dll si *.exe..si ar trebui sa se cunoasca
rau de tot...(by the way...ca sa bagi acolo toate fisierele de pe partitie
cu o anumita extensie ..adica dll si exe....in win98: *\*.dll - cred, iar in xp
\**\*.dll , si pt exe întocmai la fel...eh jucati'va si voi un pic pana va prindeti
dc nu stiti deja)...
iar la xp..am vazut ca dc faci swap fix pe alta partitie si dc dai un defrag
pe partitia cu windowsu', merge tzeava....
va dau un sfat...stati cu ochii pe XP ....optimizati'l mereu...si
haituiti ca'n filmele cu hoti programele prin registri (cu regedit)
cand le dezinstalati...pt neavizati nu ar fi bine sa umble frecvent pe'acolo:))
la mine se incarca mai rpd ca 98...si am doar 128 de ram..iar la altii
care au 256 DDr si proc mai tare..se incarca ca un cur....
asa ca ascultati bine :)))
la mine de baza e un tweak in care am intrat la inceput (tweak de XP),
regcleaner, windoctor, regedit, winboost 2000..si urmaresti si ai grija si e
de ajuns...
1. WIN 98
sa mai dai un speed disk din cand in cand....si sa nu uitati sa puneti
swapul la inceput si fisierele dll si exe la fel....
2. WIN XP
Daca aveti peste 256 de ram ...nu mai e necesitate sa va mai bateti capul...dar...
- tot la performance...gasiti o gramada de optiuni vizuale...de'alde fade'uri,
meniu pop'up care nu stiu ce dreacu tre sa le faca ..whatever....
ce e mai imp acolo este "Show windows content while dragging"..este arhi suficient
restu scoateti'le ca va indoapa prea mult calcu cu prostii...
mai e faina insa o chestie...cand selectezi sa fie un dreptunghi colorat...
aia e chiar faina...ceva de genu Rectangle somthin when selecting somthing
nu mai stiu....
- la servicii ..scoateti'le in masa pe alea care nu sunt in lista de servicii..
mai ales cretinul ala de serviciu "Print Spooler"...disabled neaparat...
dar mai e si "themes" care va baga interfata aia "prietenoasa" a XP ..care
ma enerveaza la culme si e si mare mancatoare de.....ram....
cam atata....mai sunt lucruri dar nu imi vin acuma in cap...

....Pentru cei cu XP....
precizarea 1: TREBUIE scos (disabled) serviciul "Computer browser"
precizarea 2: nu trebuie sa faceti modificari in rest...ci numai daca vreti...
evantual sa verificati daca este vreun serviciu di cele de mai jos care nu este pus pe "Automatic" (adica primele :)) de sus in jos)
Astea sunt serviciile necesare ca sa mearga bine reteaua...
si sunt pe deasupra si arhisuficiente...puteti sa scoateti cu incredere
celelalte servicii...va umple memoria degeaba...(a calculatorului:) )...
asta in cazul in care nu aveti 512 MB de Ram (HUO!!!)

In debutantul rand ...serverul este 10.5.0.1
Al doilea rand sa nu va prind cu "master browserul", respectiv "computer browserul"
active...ca nu o sa va convina...pedeapsa!!
Pentru cei cu XP ...fisierul services.txt contine lista de servicii care cred eu ca sunt arhisuficiente pentru a merge reteaua....(unele chiar trebuie neaparat)
A. PT cei cu Win98
0. Totul se intampla in Network Neighborhood -> in Properties:
1. in "File an print sharing" sa fie activat "I want to be able to give others acces to my files"
2. In "Clients 4 Microsoft Windows" -> activati Quick Logon
ca sa nu va mai ceara parola degeaba cand porneste windowsu'
3. In "TCP/IP":
"IP Adress":
-adresa IP: 10.5.txy.zz ,unde t=0 pt P5, t=1 pt P4 si p3, t=2 pt p6
x este nr calculator,
y este etajul si
zz este camera (ultimele 2 cifre)
exemplu: cam p5/215, al 3lea calc: 10.5.32.15
p4/315, al 2lea calc: 10.5.123.15
p6/406, al 3lea calc: 10.5.234.6

B. PT cei cu XP
1. Scoateti computer browserul (xp)...
Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> Computer Browser
Puneti'l pe disabled ....
2. Fiind la capitolul servicii ...este sherata pe server lista pt XP de servicii arhisuficiente
ca sa mearga treaba....
Asaaaaa....
3. Click dreapta pe "Network Places" -> Properties -> apare "Local Area Connection" si click dreapta
si pe asta..si acuma...dublu click pe "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" (sau selectezi si apesi butonul
Properties):
-Activati "Use the following IP adress"
-adresa IP: 10.5.txy.zz ,unde t=0 pt P5, t=1 pt P4, t=2 pt p6
x este nr calculator,
y este etajul si

When using the start menu the you will notice a delay between different tiers of the menu hierarchy. For the fastest computer experience possible I recommend changing this value to zero. This will allow the different tiers to appear instantly.
1) Start Regedit. If you are unfamiliar with regedit please refer to our FAQ on how to get started.
2) Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
3) Select MenuShowDelay from the list on the right.
4) Right on it and select Modify.
5) Change the value to 0.
6) Reboot your computer.

To enable or disable error reporting :
1. Open System in Control Panel.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Error Reporting.

This tweak was based on the Easy IP Check tweak posted by Hugo Tremblay.
Use this if you just want to display your IP address and not the extra information (default gateway / subnet mask)
Simply copy and paste the following into notepad
@echo.
@ipconfig | find "IP Address"
@echo.
@pause
And save as IP.BAT (save to your windows dir if you want to be able to access it anywhere)
Now when you type IP you will see:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : x.x.x.x
Press any key to continue . . .

(information about the code: @echo. produces a blank line, @ipconfig | find "IP Address" causes the output of ipconfig to be piped to the find command, which looks for the line containing "IP Address", find then outputs your IP address, @pause causes the terminal to wait for user input before continuing. The @ before each command tells the terminal not to echo the command being typed.)

If you have very slow access to your network computers through "My network Places" and have already deleted the Registry entry calling for a check of Scheduled Tasks on the other network computers (documented elsewhere on this site) AND you have numeroase network adaptors (i.e. a cable or DSL connection through one NIC and an internal network using a second NIC) check the following.
Right click on "My Network Places", go to properties. Right click on the NIC that your cable/DSL connects to, and chose properties. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and click on properties. Click on "advanced", go to "WINS" tab, and chose Disable NetBios over TCP/IP.
When you are back at your Network Connections page, right click on the Broadband selection, chose "properties" click on the networking tab. Again, chose TCP/IP, properties, advanced, WINS, and select "disable NetBios over TCP/IP"
Worked for me!
BTW, I don't use ICS (can never get it configured right) and instead use Sygate for my Connection Sharing, so I can't verify that with ICS netbios is enabled in the broadband connection and the modem NIC.The Wizard might catch it, but take a look just in case.

XP is very graphic-intensive which results in a large consumption of RAM. Sometimes to squeeze in the nitty-gritty megs of memory can be, by sacrificing the pretty little bits and colors that are on your screen.
- For starters, reducing the color density and and bit display of your screen will ultimately increase speed to your computer.
1.)On your desktop, right click and go to PROPERTIES.
2.)In properties go to Settings, and set your color quality to the lowest bit-rating (most likely 15 bit). This will micșorează color density, and icon quality, but will heavily boast system performance.
- If you really want to increase your system performance, new Windows themes are NOT the way to go, if you are ill-equipped with RAM.
1.) Go into Control Panel and into Performance and Maintenence.
2.) Get into System and click on the Advanced tab.
3.) Now click on Performance
4.) Under your visual effects, select CHOOSE BEST PERFORMANCE.
5.) This will undoubtedly increase your system performance by returning XP into Classic Style and getting rid of the fancy-shmancy fading menus, shadows and whatnot.
Now your graphically challenged computer, has turned into a mean, lean, computing machine.

It is possible to disable XP splash screen, which will slightly speed up the overall boot process. Be aware that removing the splash screen will also cause you not to see any boot-up messages that might come up (chkdsk, convert ... ), but if your system runs without any problems then it should not matter.
1. Edit boot.ini
2. Add " /noguiboot" right after "/fastdetect".
Upon restarting, the splash screen will be gone. It can be re-enabled by removing the new switch.
